Despite the fact that team projects are becoming more prevalent in the engineering curriculum, both instructors and students sometimes lack practical solutions to issues that develop during these projects. In order to address one of the most prevalent issues with student teams, "slacker" teammates, this paper conducted discourse completion interviews with professionals, academics, and students. The comments of professionals frequently differed from those of students and professors, pointing to specific areas where collaborative training is required. Students need to be specifically instructed to resist the urge to just complete the work of slackers for them and to instead offer constructive, non-accusatory criticism that is based on precise criteria and centered on the next actions.
